Position Summary
Responsible for providing leadership for the various functions of the Campus Life Office including advising the Westmont Activities Council and campus wide student activities, managing and supporting campus clubs, overseeing components of student organization leadership development, planning and implementing New Student Orientation, and the first-year student experience, and overseeing Spring Sing.
Qualifications
Requires a Master’s Degree in Student Affairs, Counseling or a related field (or equivalent experience) and 3-5 years of experience within higher education. Candidates should possess demonstrated experience in implementing programs/initiatives and knowledge of “best practices”; a track record of effective collaboration with faculty, staff and students; excellent verbal, presentation, and written communication abilities as well as strong interpersonal skills. Candidates should have prior experience working with New Student Orientation programs. Individual must be detail-oriented and have an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Primary Responsibilities:
- Department Leadership & Student Leader Development. Provide leadership for the Campus Life Office that is directed and shaped by the college and student life mission and vision statements. This includes the development and implementation of departmental vision, annual objectives, and long-term departmental goals. This also includes working collaboratively with the Dean of Students to oversee program planning for Leadership Lunches, the Student Leader Kickoff and Year-End Celebration and assisting the Dean of Students in vision and planning for August Student Leader Retreat and training as well as January training and the required APP 062 Leadership and Fieldwork course. Facilitate the selection of recipients for the David K Winter Servant Leadership Awards. Utilize assessment tools and processes as appropriate to understand and improve upon the effectiveness of the campus life program.
- New Student Orientation and First Year Experience. Direct the planning and implementation of New Student Orientation (Fall & Spring) and the First-Year Adventure-day (Fall). This includes coordinating recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision of the student staff on the Orientation Committee and Orientation Team.
- Westmont Activities Council (WAC) & Campus Events. Provide advising function for WAC which includes recruiting, training and advising the Westmont Activities Council (WAC), and overseeing campus wide student activities. Assist with Student Life large scale events such as the annual Christmas dinner.
- Campus Clubs & Student Clubs Council. Provide leadership and oversight to campus clubs and the student clubs council. This includes fielding inquiries regarding new clubs, providing training for club officers, coordinating the club approval process, overseeing club event requests, addressing club questions as they arise, liaisoning with club advisors, etc.
- Spring Sing. Responsible for implementing all aspects of the Spring Sing event including student committee selection, training and advising, program quality assurance, financial stewardship, communication with key partners, etc.
Other Responsibilities:
- Serve on campus committees as appropriate.
- Arrange to attend evening programs and gatherings of student leaders and schedule your day to provide an “after 5 presence”. This commitment varies from week to week.
