The Director of Residence Life Programs is responsible to provides leadership for the personnel activities, operations, and resources within the residence life department. In addition, the Director of Residence Life reports to Dean of Campus Life and serves alongside of the Director of Residence Life Programs and the University Care Team. This is an eleven-month position. The Director of Residence Life Programs responsibilities includes, yet is not limited to, discipleship with students, problem solving, conflict resolution, programming, fostering community, leadership and team development, crisis intervention, evaluation, assessment and facilities management.Duties and ResponsibilitiesÂ
- This position is primarily responsible to:
- Testify to personal experience of salvation in Jesus Christ, affirm belief in the University’s Statement of Faith, abide by and practice our Life Together Covenant, and both personally agree with and support the Foundational Documents of Taylor University.
- Provides direct supervision to all full-time residence hall directors and Residence Life Graduate Assistants(s).
- This includes working with the Dean of Campus Life to oversee the selection and evaluation of the professional, graduate, and undergraduate hiring within Residence Life.
- Designs, plans, and implements a program for residence life which is consistent with the university’s whole person educational emphasis.
- Shares responsibility with the Dean of Campus Life for the administration and implementation of the student conduct process.
- Coordinates the administration of the university housing policies with the Housing Coordinator and Dean of Campus Life.
- Serves as a member of the Student Development Care team. Assists in providing leadership in response to campus crisis situations.
- Counsels residents in the area of personal adjustment; intervenes in crisis situations and maintains current files of counseling, conduct, and advising sessions.
- Remains available and visible to students. Â The Director of Residence Life will serve as a liaison between students and other administrators. Â This includes working to be acquainted with all students, developing rapport with students, and being visible at hall and campus events.
- As a member of the university faculty, serves on committees as assigned.
- Submits regular reports to Dean of Campus Life. Â Communicates as often as necessary to keep Dean of Student Life and Student Care team informed regarding problems, trends and issues within the residence halls.
- Serves as a rotating on-call person August 1 – May 31, except during vacations that classes are not in session
- Additional elements of on call include:
- The responsibilities of this position require the person in the position to be reached for advanced support services and communications, including mobile e-mail, and/or web services, and thus this position will require a smartphone cellular allowance.
- Develops on-call for break periods when classes are not in session but apartment facilities remain open.
- Develops and administers a regular plan for assessment within the Residence Life program.
- Develops planning for facility updates for university owned Residential facilities. Facilitates a positive relationship with the Facilities Services department that will assure proper up keep of the residence life facilities.
- Accepts additional responsibilities as directed by the Dean of Campus Life.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Taylor’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Typical QualificationsÂ
- Master’s Degree required plus 4-7 years’ experience working in a college or university residence life program, spiritual formation, discipleship or transferrable experience.
