Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required.  Master’s degree preferred. A personal relationship with Christ and a commitment to the lifestyle of the University and its theological tradition and mission is a must. The candidate should have a basic understanding of the developmental needs of college students and of how the residence hall environment plays a vital role in a student’s educational experience. The candidate should possess organizational and interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate well with students, to direct residence hall programs, and to follow through with administrative tasks.
Responsibilities
 Resident Director: The resident director is responsible for encouraging a campus climate conducive to intellectual, spiritual, social, and physical development and care for one another. They will supervise resident assistants and will be involved in their training and development. Additional responsibilities will include counseling with residents on an informal basis within the limits of training and capability, promoting a feeling of pride for the living unit and encouraging residents to have concern and respect for the rights and privileges of others, serve on university councils as requested.
- Program Coordinator: Assist in program development and delivery in one or more areas of need in the Center for Student Development, such as campus recreation and intermural athletics.

Job Description
 Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required, Masters preferred. The applicant will be knowledgeable of college age needs and concerns and will be a Christian role model on the campus. They will be able to provide structure within a residential setting that allows students to thrive and live together effectively.
Function: Supervised residence halls provide a living environment in which residents develop a strong sense of community, receive encouragement, caring support, and guidance, and are given the opportunity to serve and lead others. Each residence hall is supervised by a resident director, who is assisted by student resident assistants. Together this staff seeks to identify and meet residents’ needs by seeking to be in relationship with them.
Supervision: The resident director receives supervision from the associate dean of students for residence life and the vice president and dean of student development.
Duties and Tasks
- Build Relationships
- Seek to get to know your residents and help them feel welcome on campus.
- Attend evening and weekend hall and school events to intentionally be a role model, show interest in and to share in life with students, and to provide supervision when needed.
- Demonstrate a helpful, supportive, and positive attitude towards the Center for Student Development and the University.
- Spiritual Leadership
- Maintain a consistent life of Christian service, dedication, church attendance and witness.
- Attend chapel services weekly and initiate conversations that lead to discussions that encourage spiritual growth and sensitivity.
- Mentoring Role
- Seek opportunities to engage students in conversation about life issues.
- Maintain confidentiality as appropriate.
- Be aware of campus policies and procedures as they apply to issues of mental and physical health and respond when needed.
- Notify the Center for Student Development regarding students in difficulty which would precipitate their going home/withdrawing from school.
- Staff and Student Group Supervision
- Assist in the selection, training and supervision of resident assistants. Attend, assist and teach during retreats, in-service programs, staff training and developmental programs, to include pre-semester and mid-year leadership retreats.
- Conduct weekly staff meetings with RAs, meet with RAs bi-weekly on a 1-on-1 basis.
- Supervision of Maintenance/Cleanliness of Living Area
- Assist in the opening and closing of the halls/apartments by inspecting all areas and monitoring repairs and cleaning in preparation for the opening of school/semester.
- Submit work orders at the end of spring semester of repairs that need to be made and track their resolution.
- Encourage prevention of damage to property and immediately and thoroughly investigate violations to determine who is responsible for damages.
- Incidents/Reports
- Assist the Center for Student Development in responding to disciplinary and other critical situations. Take time with the residents involved to discuss and understand the situation as fully as possible at the time it occurs.
- Once an incident is fully addressed, immediately submit an incident report as instructed on the case management program provided.
- Follow policies in cases of disaster, lockdowns, and other major emergencies.
- Disciplinary Procedures
- Explain TNU policies and procedures to residents and be familiar with the guidelines that conform to the Manual of the Church of the Nazarene, the Student Handbook and the housing contract.
- Support and enforce University and residence hall regulations.
- Administrative Duties
- Maintain a current list of residents and room assignments by promptly updating appropriate information in the housing programming system (StarRez) and on floorplans.
- Keep a current and accurate record of the hall club account balance, administer funds appropriately, and submit necessary reports on time.
- Attend RD and one-on-one meetings with the associate dean of students for residence life as scheduled. Participate in retreats and workshops when scheduled.
- Serve in a rotating on-call capacity over weekends and University breaks.
- Program Coordinator
- Serve in an assigned coordinator role within the Center for Student Development. Supervision of this assignment may fall to a dean or director outside of residence life.
- Miscellaneous
- Agree not to engage in other remunerative employment while under contract in the residence hall. Any exception to this must be discussed and cleared with the vice president and dean of student development or their designee.
- Fulfill other duties as assigned.
