Position Summary:Â As a member of the Student Affairs team, the Resident Director is responsible for the processes, procedures, activities, and events of the residence life program and assists in the development and implementation of the Student Life program at Hope International University (HIU). The Housing Director is responsible for overseeing housing placements and ensuring accurate records.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Resident Director
Provide live-in supervision and coordination of the residence life program. Directly supervise and mentor the Resident Assistants (RAs) including developing and implementing the selection process and training programs. Provide supportive care to students in crisis and challenge. Respond to Student Conduct situations and facilitate the disciplinary process. Perform various administrative tasks supporting the daily operation of the Residence Life and Housing programs. Keep regular office hours to assist the needs of students and the department; hours are generally conducted in the Student Affairs office. Develop relationships and rapport with residents, both individually and as a group; co-create an environment that enhances a sense of belonging and commitment to community. Help residents with problems concerning adjustment to campus and residential life, or personal, spiritual, and developmental issues (e.g. illness, family death, emotional issues, relational issues, roommate issues, alcohol and drug abuse). Ensure adherence to the Community Standards and Policies of the University and the Responsibilities and Regulations of the Residence Halls. Serve as a professional staff member on-call during evening hours, weekends, and vacation periods, on a rotation basis. Attend Residence Hall functions, campus activities and programs, maintaining high visibility in the residence halls as a professional staff representative. Work closely with the many departments on campus including Student Financial Services, Information Technology, Operations, and other key departments. Represent the Offices of Residence Life & Housing when speaking with parents and prospective students. Coordinate the student staff training sessions and retreats (fall, spring and in-service) covering such subjects as conflict resolution, student conduct management, crisis intervention, programming, etc. Implement new programs and policies when necessary to provide continued support in addressing existing or potential problems in the Residence halls. Serve as professional staff member responsible for the Residence Hall decorum, such as tidiness, cleanliness, and good working order of the lobbies, hallways, and rooms. Maintain KPI’s and conduct regular assessments to track relevant housing metrics and trends.
Housing Director
Responsible for collecting housing applications and off-campus appeal requests, managing housing placements, and maintaining accurate records. Collaborate with the NSO Coordinator to ensure a smooth and successful move-in experience for students and families during Fall and Spring New Student Orientation. In partnership with Omega Hall Director, problem-solve and support students who request mid-semester/mid-year room relocations. Collaborate with Conference Services to ensure there is a seamless process for guests receiving room keys, tracking damages, etc. Work with custodial and facilities teams to rooms are maintained in good, clean, working condition and damages are properly assessed and charged to the responsible person.
